The Finish: Joey Logano, Phoenix International Raceway and top-10 finishes are all too common of friends. Logano, racing in the No. 18 GameStop Toyota Saturday, started the Wypall 200 in the ninth position, fought a sometimes tight and sometimes loose racecar during the afternoon, but still prevailed to score a fourth-place finish and keep the title hopes alive for the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing team.  Heading into next week’s season finale for the NASCAR Nationwide Series, the No. 18 team holds a one-point lead on the No. 60 Roush Fenway team in the race for the Nationwide Series Owner’s Championship. A Quote From Joey About Testing in Daytona

The following was posted on Joey’s official Facebook page:

Quote from Joey down at the Daytona test today: What have you learned so far from today’s test session at Daytona? “We learned that when you take a spoiler out of a race car at Daytona it makes the car go faster. We were going 206 or 207 or so. We’ve been doing that, taking the rear spring out of the car and just taking downforce away from these things. Trying to get away from that two-car draft. We’re slowly getting away from the two-car draft, making it harder to do it. I guess we’ve made gains today because that’s what NASCAR is looking for.”

Home Depot Team Finishes 11th at Phoenix International Raceway

The Home Depot Team and Joey Logano ran a solid race and recovered from being blocked in their pit stall to finish 11th at Phoenix International Raceway on Sunday.  Logano started from the 25th position, worked his way up to 17th, dropped back to 24th after the pit road issue and rallied to finish just outside the top 10 when the checkered flag waved at lap 312.

“This was a good race for the team, man we needed it,” said Logano.  “After the way the races have been going for us it feels good to have a solid effort from the entire Home Depot Team.  The pit stops were great and Zippy (crew chief Greg Zipadelli) made really good changes all day.  The car was tight in the center and on exit all day, but by the end it was definitely the best it had been all day and that’s what you hope for, to improve the car throughout the race and have it the best at the end.”

Phoenix Recap: Joe Gibbs Racing

Joey Logano would lead Joe Gibbs Racing with an 11th-place finish in today’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Kobalt Tools 500 at Phoenix International Raceway. Teammate Denny Hamlin would cross the line just behind Logano in 12th, while an engine failure left Kyle Busch back in 36th.

Joey Logano started the No. 20 Home Depot Toyota in the 25th position and was able to move inside the top 20 during the open run of the race. He would race as high as 13th shortly following a restart for a lap 40 competition caution. The No. 20 Camry’s handling conditions proved problematic for Logano however over the course of the ensuing run and he would drop a few positions while waiting for the next opportunity for The Home Depot crew to make the necessary adjustments. That would come on a pit stop just prior to the midpoint of the race and just a few laps after the next restart Logano had climbed all the way into the top 10. He would settle into the 12th position before coming down pit road under the green flag for a final scheduled stop with 30 laps to go. Logano would gain an additional spot while racing to the finish for a solid 11th-place effort.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series travels to Homestead for the season finale next Sunday, November 20. The Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship is down to just two teams with Carl Edwards holding a slim three-point lead over Tony Stewart. The race will begin at 3 PM ET with live, high-definition coverage provided by ESPN beginning with its pre-race show at 2 PM. The race will also be broadcast live on SIRIUS Satellite Radio Channel 90.
